Little Acorns

Little Acorns is our integration to school programme for four year olds. It is run by our Deputy Principal, Mrs Julie Mackle and Our Lead Teacher - Junior Unit, Mrs Benge.  While optional, we have found the programme to be a fantastic way to integrate children into school.

Children are invited to attend Little Acorns for ten weeks prior to them starting school.  Parents/ caregivers are asked to attend the first five weeks of the programme. This is so they can become familiar with the operation of a new entrant class and to develop children's readiness for school in literacy, numeracy, motor skills, co-ordination and social skills.  Parents learn how they can help their child at home with reading and other homework type activities.  In the second five weeks, we suggest that children are left to attend on their own.

The group meets in Room 1 here at Gisborne Central School on Wednesdays starting at 1.15pm and concluding at 2.45p.m.

Please contact Julie at school if you wish to join in the Little Acorns programme or want to know more; 06-8675073 julie@gisbornecentral.school.nz
